The Dog Days of Desert Highlands

October 2021

Chris, Susan, and their dog, Tucker, recently joined our community after relocating from California. They had heard about Desert Highlands through word of mouth and decided to come check it out for themselves. The natural beauty of the landscape, complimented by the naturalistic architecture of our community are what first convinced them to settle down here at Desert Highlands.

And after seeing how much Tucker was enjoying his new home and neighbors, they knew they’d made the right decision.

Interested in getting to know our new neighbor a little better? You can probably find him at the dog park. Or you can check out our interview with Tucker and his parents below!

Making Friends at the Dog Park

Most days of the week, around 3:30 in the afternoon, you can find Tucker at the dog park, exercising and making friends. Tucker is among the two dozen or so regulars who regularly play in the Racquet Club-adjacent park.

For Tucker, the park has meant meeting new dogs and having lots of fun. For Chris and Susan, the dog park has been a great place to get to know their new neighbors and socialize with new friends. For the whole family, it’s been a great way to experience the warm, welcoming nature of the Desert Highlands community.

From meeting new folks to getting great local recommendations, the Desert Highlands Dog Park has been a crucial social hub for Chris, Susan, and Tucker as they get settled into the community. And the number of new four-legged (and two-legged!) friends is only going to grow as more seasonal residents return for the fall and winter.

Dog-toberfest

As you might imagine, Tucker keeps a busy social calendar. In addition to his standing appointment every afternoon at the dog park, he’s fast becoming a fixture of the Saturday Farmer’s Market, where he enjoys his favorite new treat, rabbit bits.

He’s also looking forward to this week’s Halloween-themed Dog-toberfest celebration. All the dogs at Desert Highlands—and their parents!—are invited for a festive afternoon get together to celebrate the spooky season. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed Dog and there will be a craft beer tasting sponsored by our local vendor (for humans). Dogs will also get a chance to participate in our version of collecting candy, in an event we’re calling “Do Tricks, Get Treats!”

Join all the furry fun this Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 for a spooky good time!
