The Landscape We Love
As any resident or visitor can attest, the natural landscape in Desert Highlands is the most immediately striking and memorable feature of our community.
Living here means living right in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. The rugged natural beauty of the landscape surrounds our community and amenities, allowing residents to wake up, live, and play amongst breathtaking vistas every day.
Our natural resources are an integral part of life at Desert Highlands, and we always want to keep it that way. Folks come here to feel connected to the landscape and to actually live in the Sonoran. Preservation and stewardship efforts are vital components of our efforts to help our residents achieve this goal.
The Conservation Strategy
One thing that helps us maintain our commitment to enjoying the Sonoran Desert is the NAOS requirement in place in Scottsdale. The NAOS—the Natural Area Open Space—requirement is a mandate to preserve the natural beauty of the landscape, designed to preserve the desert in its natural state.
In our area, this translates to a substantial area of all lots being earmarked for preservation. This takes the form of an almost entirely unmanicured landscape within Desert Highlands.
At least 25% of each lot at Desert Highlands is dedicated to NAOS, helping maintain the natural state of the area. That means no landscaping, development, or other manmade intrusions. This allows our community to put an emphasis on the native vegetation, rock formations, scenic corridors and diverse wildlife of our area.
