Gearing Up for the USGA Grass Court Classic

Here at Desert Highlands, we’re preparing for the highly anticipated USGA Grass Court Classic taking place next month, June 1–6. The event will host 100 to 120 of the Southwest’s best amateurs for this special celebration of tennis in North Scottsdale, Arizona. As with previous years’ events, the 2021 Grass Court Classic promises immaculate courts, fantastic matches, and top-notch sportsmanship.

A Tennis (Court) Match Made in Heaven

No matter your court preference, Desert Highlands has you covered. Our private club community boasts 13 courts total—four grass, six clay, and three hard. Members can check them all out to find their perfect match!

Tennis players who opt for grass enjoy the fast pace this type of court offers—or maybe they just like to play on the signature court style found at Wimbledon. Grass’s low bounce capacity means players must move fast to make it to the ball. If your game includes strong serve-and-volley skills, this is the style of court for you, allowing you to perform at your best.

If your tennis preference veers more to the continent, like the French Open’s clay courts, we have a court for that too. Known for providing a somewhat slower game thanks to clay’s ability to give balls a higher bounce, this style of court also favors baseline players. Not just popular in Europe, clay courts are also beloved throughout Latin America.

Looking for a fast ball bounce, but not quite as speedy as what grass courts give? Then a hard court is your Goldilocks option. Balls bounce relatively fast and high, but the bounce is more predictable, resulting in an easier-to-control game.

Brush Up on Your Tennis Game

If your game isn’t quite ready for the Grand Slam, Desert Highlands has a range of tennis programs for all levels of players. With clinics, lessons, organized play sessions, tournaments, and relaxed social events, there’s an option to fit any schedule and level of play.

Our active offerings include ladies and men’s Interclub Team play, member/guest invitationals, and three doubles club championships options: men’s, ladies, and mixed.

Any of these tennis offerings provide a surefire way to improve your game, get more involved in the community, and have a blast while you’re at it!
