Another glorious season of golf is kicking off in Arizona, with temperate weather and abundant blue skies welcoming golfers back to the greens. At Desert Highlands, we look forward to the time of year when our members can get outside and enjoy our signature Jack Nicklaus golf course with a side of sunshine.

This year, the season is already in full swing. Read on for the latest golf developments, from recent and upcoming events to newly earned accolades and more!

Recap: Waste Management Phoenix Open

This popular PGA Tournament, known as “The People’s Open,” was held at TPC Scottsdale February 1-7, bringing golf enthusiasts across the country together to safely watch another successful year of legendary golf.

With big names like Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Daniel Berger on the field, it was an unforgettable event. Nearly half of the top-50 golfers in the world attended the event, which has notably been named the “Tournament of the Year” by PGA Tour four times in the past six years.

What a time to be a golf fan!

Top-Ranked Renovations at DH

After the completion of our $7 million golf course renovation project in 2019, our signature Jack Nicklaus desert course reopened for play. The project included the addition of a new irrigation system, cart path upgrades, and new sand to accurately match the landscape of the gorgeous Sonoran Desert. We also restored the original design vision of the split-fairway par-four thirteenth, enhancing the already impressive golf experience at Desert Highlands.

This year, the renovated Desert Highlands course received high praise, thanks to our investment in its future. Golfweek’s 2021 “Ultimate Guide to Golf Course Living and Great Escapes” ranked our golf course 54th out of the top 200 residential golf courses, up from 67th last year. Read more about our increased rankings here. We can’t wait for what’s to come in 2021 and beyond!

(Putting) Practice Makes Perfect

At Desert Highlands, a challenging experience and breathtaking views are always par for the course. But what’s often unexpected is our professionally designed 18-hole putting course. Designed by Gary Panks, the course features more than 60,000 square feet of lush putting surface, so players have plenty of room to stretch out and warm up.

We’re proud to claim the title of the first club in the United States and the second in the world to install a putting course of this magnitude in the 1980s. Surrounded by stunning desert views in every direction, it’s the perfect place to practice, practice, practice.

Coming Up: Raters Event

Wondering what golf events are on the horizon? We’re glad you asked. On March 31, Golfweek’s raters will be onsite at Desert Highlands to assess the condition and status of our signature course. In 2020, Desert Highlands was listed as the #8 course in Arizona, so we’re thrilled to be considered this year!

Stay tuned to find out more on the results of the Raters Event, and any other golf happenings in North Scottsdale this year.
