Year in Review: Desert Highlands 2020 Highlights

January 2021

Although 2020 was a challenging year, there is still so much to be thankful for in our close-knit desert community. Desert Highlands has seen a great deal of progress this year, with new construction projects coming to a close and the addition of exciting new amenities for members to enjoy.

From the completion of our clubhouse gastropub to earning new accolades for our signature golf course, we’re breaking down all of our top highlights from 2020.

Two New Pickleball Courts Available for Play: June 2020

As if our world-class Tennis & Racquet Club wasn’t impressive enough, this past year we decided to add two pickleball courts for our members. This popular sport is a new favorite among residents. It’s the perfect way to pass the time and get some exercise under the gorgeous Arizona skies!

In addition to the courts, we also welcomed two new professionals to our Racquet Sports Team: Tatum Prudhomme as Head Tennis Professional and Kevin Klabunde as the Racquet Sports Professional. These two highly experienced professionals have played an essential role in assisting members with learning this fast-paced sport.

And with 13 tennis courts featuring all three Grand Slam surfaces—grass, clay, and hard—our members will certainly never run out of options for play at the Racquet Club.

Golfweek’s Best Private Courses Ranking: August 2020

Joining Golfweek’s list of Best Private Courses state-by-state this year was quite an honor for our community. Ranked #8 for Arizona courses, this accolade speaks volumes about our prestigious Jack Nicklaus signature 18-hole course.

Carved into the landscape of the surrounding Sonoran Desert, our challenging desert course offers gorgeous views and a unique experience unlike anything else. Here, you can make history at every hole as you walk in the footsteps of legends like Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus. When members are looking to brush up on their game before the next round, our 18-hole putting course is always ready and waiting.

Jack’s Gastropub Grand Opening: Mid-October 2020

In mid-October, we completed our $2 million clubhouse enhancement project and officially opened our brand-new gastropub, Jack’s. Construction began in June and continued throughout the summer, led by the award-winning architect, Erik B. Peterson from PHX Architecture. Our goal was to create a modernized gathering place for our members and diversify our delicious dining options here at Desert Highlands.

Jack’s features a piano bar, upgraded lounge area, high-top seating, and walls lined with memorabilia paying homage to Jack Nicklaus and other influential golf legends. And with a full kitchen renovation, our culinary team has plenty of space to create high-quality cuisine for our members. Check out more details about the finished project.

Top 15 “Platinum Club of America” Award: Late October 2020

Out of all our accomplishments and enhancements this year, landing the title of Top 15 “Platinum Club of America” by the Club Leaders Forum was the cherry on top. Our luxury golf community was ranked the best in Arizona and 14th overall for the upcoming year! As the only golf club in Arizona to be bestowed this prestigious award, we are thrilled that our energetic community of golf enthusiasts was recognized.

Although our stunning golf course certainly draws attention, we believe it’s our exceptional amenities, updated clubhouse, state-of-the-art fitness center, world-class Racquet Club, and 24-hour security that really seals the deal for our members and residents.
