Interim General Manager/COO
Larry joined the Desert Highlands team as Interim GM/COO in March 2018. Larry is a seasoned club manager having held GM/COO
positions at many Platinum Clubs of distinction. He brings his expertise to assist the Members and Staff of Desert Highlands during this important time of transition.
Director of Golf
Doug joined Desert Highlands as Director of Golf in 2004. He has been a PGA Class A member since 1999 and is very involved in the local SWSPGA chapter where he has been a member of many committees as well as the 2001 and 2002
Tournament Chairman of the Arizona Open.
Director of Golf Instruction
Karen is a wonderful instructor who works well with all golfers ranging from low to high handicappers. She offers a variety of programs to the members including video analysis, on-course instruction, private lessons and golf schools. Any program can be customized to fit your individual needs. Prior to joining Desert Highlands over 11 years ago, Karen was the Director of Instruction at the Jim McLean Golf Academy. She has trained personally with Hank Haney, Jim Hardy and Scott Sackett, three world ranked instructors who have contributed to her vast knowledge of the game.
Philip Shoemaker Jr.
Golf Course Superintendent
Phil holds a degree in Turfgrass Management from Rutgers University, plus over 30 years of practical experience in all facets of golf course maintenance. He first arrived at Desert Highlands in 1982 to assist with the construction of the first Jack Nicklaus signature championship desert golf course.
Eric Anderson, USPTA
Director of Tennis
Eric Anderson has been directing the tennis program at Desert Highlands since 2004. With 140 active tennis players, he has established a program that includes seven weekly games for members of all levels, interclub teams, and a calendar of over 20 special events annually. Prior to joining the family at Desert Highlands, Eric was the Director of Tennis at Tucson Country Club for 16 years.
Chef Daniel is an Arizona Native. He attended Scottsdale Culinary Institute and has been cooking professionally the past 30 years. Chef Daniel has worked at Desert Highlands since late 2007. Daniel’s desire to cook began at the young age of 5 in his family’s kitchen and he pursues his life’s passion with energetic gusto.
Director of Fitness
Tyler has enjoyed a career in the health and fitness industry for over 18 years. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Exercise Science from Syracuse University, along with a Masters of Education in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University and currently holds certifications as a NASM-CPT/GFS; Integrated Specialist, and Certified Les Mills Group Instructor.
